Who we are

Clinic Nepal and Förderkreis Friendship Clinic Nepal e.V.

“Clinic Nepal” is a non-governmental development aid project in the south of Nepal. Founder and driving force is Hari Bhandary, who comes from Nepal himself and is confronted with the hardships of the population. The donation association “Förderkreis Friendship Clinic Nepal e.V.” supports the work of “Clinic Nepal” both with donations and by arranging volunteer assignments. It is in regular contact with Hari Bhandary. Members see for themselves the steady development of the projects on site through trips to Nepal. The work of “Clinic Nepal” is also supported by a network of support associations from Great Britain, Spain, the USA and Germany. International awards such as “The One Hong Kong Humanitarian Annual Award” or the support from the SEZ (Foundation for Development Cooperation Baden-Württemberg) highlight the significance of the work of Clinic Nepal. All donations made through the support association arrive on site in full, without deductions. Our work is voluntary. We have no salaries and no administrative costs, apart from minimal transfer fees for international transactions.

Health

The heart of Clinic Nepal: the day clinic

A key focus of Clinic Nepal is medical aid. A team of alternately working doctors (general practitioner, ophthalmologist, dentist, gynaecologist, neurologist), nurses and midwives cares for patients in a day clinic. In addition, multi-day health camps are held monthly in remote, underserved areas. Patients with serious illnesses, complicated births or after accidents are taken to the nearest state hospital (Bharatpur) in the clinic's own ambulance.

Kindergartens, orphanage and school support

Clinic Nepal runs three kindergartens. Here 200 children aged 2–6 are looked after according to the Montessori method, receive a warm meal every day and can play and learn in a child-friendly environment. In addition, there is a children's home where orphans and children/young people from very poor backgrounds aged 3–18 live. There is also school support, through which the local state school is supported and particularly committed pupils are promoted.

Economic aid

Financial support and disaster relief

Many people in Nepal live in the poorest conditions. Clinic Nepal has made it its task to support the population on an economic level as well through a wide variety of projects. For this purpose, for example, a market hall for selling regional products was built, goat donations were arranged to secure an existential minimum, or the costs of expensive operations were covered. In addition, Clinic Nepal helps with targeted projects in the event of natural disasters such as the devastating earthquake of 2015, but also during the coronavirus pandemic.

Hari's Story

Hari Bhandary founded “Clinic Nepal” in 1997 in his home town of Meghauli, Chitwan in the south of Nepal near the Indian border. He himself comes from the humblest circumstances and has now been tirelessly working for the success of his life’s project for almost 30 years. What began as a small health station is today a diverse aid network with a day clinic, kindergartens, children's home, water project and much more.

Frequently asked questions

Perhaps you will already find the answer to your question here.

Does my money arrive?
Yes! Your donation arrives 100 % in Nepal. Our work is voluntary: we have no salaries and no administrative costs, apart from minimal fees for international bank transfers.
How can I become a member?
Download our membership application (in German), fill it out and send it to clinicnepal@web.de. Membership costs just 20 euros per year. Once a year, in December, there is a members’ meeting in Freiburg. Tip: You can fill in the PDF directly on a computer. On a phone or tablet, it works best with the free “Adobe Acrobat Reader” app – or you can print it and fill it in by hand.
How can I help as a volunteer?
Volunteers are very welcome. Doctors and medical students can get involved in the day clinic or at health camps. Besides the clinic, Clinic Nepal also runs kindergartens, which offer further volunteering opportunities.
I am a medical student. Can I do a clerkship at the day clinic?
Yes, absolutely! Please send us an email at clinicnepal@web.de with a short application, your CV and the exact period of the clerkship. We will clarify everything else in a personal conversation.
Can I donate to a specific project?
Absolutely. Please state the specific purpose in the payment reference of your transfer (e.g. “new ambulance” or “flood relief”).
Are donation receipts available?
Yes, for donations of €100 or more we gladly issue a donation receipt. Please include your address in the transfer. For amounts under €100, a copy of your bank statement is sufficient for the German tax office.
