Support for the state school

Shree Janaki Secondary School in Meghauli is a state community school, founded in 1968. It has around 800 pupils from nursery to class 12 and 42 teachers. A science stream (+2 Science) was also set up, and the first pupils have already passed it successfully.

Hari Bhandary was a pupil at the school himself and has supported it since 1992 through the donation of computers, furnishings (tables, chairs) and help with structural extensions. In 2020, for example, Clinic Nepal paid for the extension of the school building and furniture for classes 11 and 12.

Prize money

Hari Bhandary used the prize money of the “THE ONE International Humanitarian Award 2016” to finance a school bus, an additional floor, furniture and improvements to the laboratory.

School bus

The 51-seater was the first school bus in Meghauli. It runs four times a day, around 200 km, and about 100 pupils use it.

Individual support

Clinic Nepal regularly hands the school a cheque for scholarships. The latest was NPR 504,000 for 28 pupils from needy families in the Science and Management streams. Science teaching in Nepal is otherwise mostly offered only at private schools. For each pupil and year, Clinic Nepal pays NPR 18,000 (about US$ 140).

The scholarship pupils come from poor families, some from the caste of the “untouchables”.
